A Rest!!! in Mooloolaba

Saturday December 14

It was cheaper to hire a car for 2 weeks than 10 days so we had wheels for the whole time. We moved into Dave and Anne’s house as a base and had arrived just in time for a party. We enjoyed meeting all their local friends.

The food spread was amazing.

We zoomed up to Hervey Bay to visit Pete and Cathy off Kittani. Pete had been with us on Kittani for the trip but Cathy no longer sails. We had a great time around the BBQ and the card table with some sightseeing thrown in.

Next was a catch up with Lea’s grandchildren. They were very excited to see us and kept Lea busy playing with them all day.

We stayed the night at Beerwah and next morning headed off to the Gold Coast for some boat chores. First stop Deception Bay to see Mal at Icer Boat Refrigeration with a fridge controller for repair. Then down to Currumbin to drop off the Saloon fly Screen for repair at Freedom Awnings. We stopped in at Swift Inflatables to get some advise and glue to repair the bump strip on our Dinghy. We had planned a visit to IRB for a new main Halyard, Sheets and furling line but as they were flat fitting out the Sydney Hobart Fleet we placed our order but left them alone.

On the way back through Brisbane we stopped for dinner at our friends Kath and Antonio. Kath cooked us a lovely dinner and they gave us a demonstration of the Tango dancing they both love so much.

It was nice to get back to Anne and Dave’s for some quiet and relaxing time.

The next week flew by. A dinner and catch up with Marcelle and Brian.

Drinks and dinner at the Wharf with Dave and Anne. Shopping trips to the Plaza. Drinks with Geoff and Charmaine at their beautiful property at Buderim. Lea was busy researching a new bike and booking accommodation in San Sebastian, Spain for next year. Bushwalks with Anne and Dave.

A massive storm went through on Christmas Eve bringing much needed torrential rain and some relief from the Bushfire threat.

Christmas lunch we spent with Geoff and Charmaine out at their property with all their family. A fabulous feast and great company.

We enjoyed a quiet boxing day watching the start of the Sydney Hobart. We have a few friends in the race so we were keen to monitor their progress.

We had a day driving along Rainbow Beach in Dave & Anne’s White Rhino in company with Geoff and Charmaine & Co.

And another days bushwalking with Dave and Anne and their walking group.

All too soon it was time to drop off the hire car, reprovision the boat and continue our journey South. The bushfires down home way and the South East Coast are becoming a big concern.
